baby's first foods

Solid foods= paranoid mommy LOL literally I was so nervous to give him solids, I was afraid he would stop nursing or wouldn't latch correctly anymore.  He is doing just fine though! I was also afraid to give him a sippy cup but he is doing great with that as well.  He mostly just plays with it but he drinks water and pumped breast milk out of it too.

So first we started him off just playing in his high chair and getting used to it.  Then I gave him a popsicle (frozen milk in a mesh container)

Then it was time for the real stuff.
So far he has had
avocado, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, carrots, peas, peaches, and nectarines!
Next up: Pears, green beans, butternut squash, oatmeal and/or rice cereal.

He drinks out of a zoli cup (straw) and/or tiny plastic or dixy cup which he pretty much dumps all over himself. I feed him and he feeds himself with his hands and his spoon.  He also plays with is food on his tray and sucks on the containers.

We have been making our own baby food and it is really fun and working out really well so far.  We basically have just done it 2 nights twice for a couple hours and we should have enough to last us for a month.  We will have to make a new batch in a couple of weeks since food only stays good for one month.  We freeze it in ice cube trays (mumbi and bumbi) and then we put cubes in zip lock bags in the freezer.  The night before we take out what we are going to give him the next day and put it in XOX Tupperware containers.  We just started doing 2 cubes a day, but I think he really is not interested but I will let him explore the idea.

He had 3 reactions to avocado so we are not feeding him that for the time being, everything else has been fine but I am hoping he will continue to be fine.  There is nothing worse then watching your little one puke a ton, I felt so bad for him. I am really wanting to try bananas but they are in the same family as avocado so I am nervous that he will not do well with them.  I am going to ask the doctor at the 9 month appointment.

I also want him to try pumpkin, strawberries, blueberries, and other fruits, veggies, yogurt, eggs, cheese, and more!

I know that for the time being he is doing great growing with breast milk.  He gained over 10 lbs on breast milk alone in the first 6.5 months of his life.  Those chunky legs are from my milk not the solids.

Also I have about 35 bags of frozen milk that I need to use by the end of September.  Wish it would stay good for a year instead of 6 months.  I guess you could say I over pumped but I was so paranoid about going back to work that I made sure I pumped enough so he would have enough.

Once I get through those 35 I have about another 60 bags that I have to use some expire in October, November, December, January.
